About…

Sally is a printmaker, mixed media and textile artist based near Richmond, North Yorkshire. She has a love of the natural world around her and sees nature and landscape in terms of form, pattern and texture. She is drawn to the animals and birds close to her home, many of which appear on the Birds of Conservation Concern, red or amber lists. Using photographs or direct sketchbook notes, she work out her images back in the studio along with utilising hand spun local wool and yarn from heritage sheep breeders, Sally works with ideas as the image begins to form.

Carving Lino is a meditative process, and the image organically changes as the marks are cut and carved. after hand burnished test prints, the blocks are often re cut and refined before being editioned. Both Lino and the woven form allow a direct response to the animals and environments around her and the finished image to ‘emerge’, from the block or loom. Sally hopes her work will provoke a love of the natural environment and a desire in all of us to be guardians of it for the future.

The Lino prints are all hand printed from the block using an Ironbridge Etching press No. 2. She uses a range of papers including Awagami Washi, Kitakata 36gsm or Fabriano Paper and use Laurance Linseed oil based relief inks or hawthorn stay open inks. Each edition is limited to 20 depending on paper type and colour and the ink colour used. All prints are printed to order and may take up to 3 weeks to allow printing and drying.

The giclee prints are open editions from original mixed media, watercolour, or ink drawings.

Giclee prints from any original lino cut are available to order as these can be tailored to particular sizes to suit the client – but they would not be limited editions. Prices vary according to size- contact Sally for a quote.
